Take Care of Specific Parts of the Dress

Many wedding gowns include areas of fine detailing or folded materials which must be treated with extra-special care. Be sure to wrap these important areas in acid-free tissue during transit to avoid damage to detailing and wrinkling of the fabric.

Most gowns will also be fitted with loops and tags inside, which are used for securing the dress when it is placed on a hanger. Always be sure to use these fittings when hanging your dress up, as failing to do so can cause the gown to lose its shape.

If you wish to use a professional cleaning service, make sure to enlist their help as soon as possible after your wedding to achieve the best results.

Package Properly

Before and after the event, your wedding gown should be properly stored. Use a specially designed wedding dress box which has been measured up to fit your gown. This box will be made of acid-free cardboard and acid-free paper, which will prevent your dress from corroding or from suffering any damage. It will also protect the gown’s subtle hues and prevent discolouration as a result of light damage, which can fade the material over time.

Packaging your wedding dress in this way will not only keep it looking its best for your big day, it will also help you to treasure the memory after your wedding, and, it will enable you to secure a great price for your gown should you come to sell it in the future.

Think About the Environment

The place in which you store your wedding gown is also important. Avoid any locations in your house which undergo big temperature changes on a regular basis, and also avoid any areas with high levels of humidity. Place silica packs in the room to keep moisture at bay, but do not let these packs come into contact with the dress.

Also, never store your wedding shoes with your wedding dress. The leather and glue in the footwear can cause harmful fumes which will damage and corrode the material of the dress.
